The Passion — from the sweat of blood in Gethsemane to the last breath on Calvary. Prayed slowly, this is the set that keeps the rosary from becoming sentimental.
Holding the crucifix: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Not as I will, but as thou wilt.
He asks to be spared, and means it. The prayer of the God-man in the garden is not serene; it is sweat like drops of blood, and friends who cannot stay awake an hour. He is obedient not because it costs him nothing, but because it costs him everything.

“O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy.”
Then therefore Pilate took Jesus and scourged him.

Amen.
