For a Parking Space
In the manner of the old traveller’s prayers
Almighty God, who led thy people dry-shod through the sea and guided the Magi to a single door, guide now this car to a single open space — near, if it please thee, and legal, if it be thy will.
Preserve me from circling in vain and from covetousness toward the spot another has plainly seen first. And if none is to be found, grant me the grace to park a little further off and to be grateful for the walk. Amen.
